The Gibbon/Burke Camp
Honors two Union Veterans of the American Civil War

Major General John Gibbon

Major General John Gibbon, though born in Pennsylvania, spent his youth was with his family in Charlotte, North Carolina where his father was the chief assayer at the U.S. Mint. He was appointed to West Point and remain in the service of the Union throughout his career.


 
Brigadier General Daniel W. Burke

1st Sgt. Daniel Webster Burke, was presented with the Medal of Honor, for his action during the Battle of Shepherdstown in Virginia on 20 September 1862. After serving the Union throughout his life, he subsequently retired in 1899 as the rank of Brigadier General.
